On our last stopover before home, we camped at one of Harvest Hosts recent venue additions. Pell’s Family Farm (aka Pell’s Pie Patch and Family Farm) is a yet another unique, fun and delicious experience! In the lower part of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, their description of pies, sour dough bagels had me before we could say hello.
From the road, you don’t know what to expect. Then driving up, it’s a small, quaint farm that’s loaded with great hospitality and outstanding food.
Easy to access, it’s right off of Highway 2. Steve greeted us, showed us the level area and we were off to park. I backed the nuCamp Tab 400 Boondock camper in as there was ample room.
Pell’s Family Farm: Huge on Flavor & Big Personality
As more and more Harvest Hosts locations are using the app to schedule a one night stay, this makes planning and communicating easier. We ordered our raspberry pie and bagels in advance.
How were they?
When we arrived, the pie was still warm. Holy smokes though – there wasn’t enough time to take a photo of a slice. Yes, Briana’s pie is that awesome. We devoured it over dinner. Buttery, flaky crust with a center chock full of raspberries. And well, it was also breakfast. It is a fruit after all.
Plus, the sour dough bagels, hamburger meat are off the charts delicious. If you know what you like, a suggestion is to communicate in advance as their products are very good and the locals love them.
Another bonus? Briana keeps a food and recipe blog. Check out her fantastic recipes and insights into farming and farm life.
In addition to the farm store, we visited with the animals, walked along wildflowers and learned about their growing family business. Briana shares their history and future plans to keep their farm and business evolving. Her passion for the farm, their products and her willingness to share great tips and recipes is contagious.
Sheep, cows (the youngest, Feta, is featured above) chickens are all part of the fabric of this sweet and unique family farm.
Stop & Shop Even if you Can’t Stay
While it’s off the road, it’s not off the beaten path. If you know you’re driving through the area (Gould, MI near St. Ingace on Highway 2), reach out via their website contact page. it’s definitely worth a stop and shop in their rustic farm store.
